Colorful Stone

This summer the main attraction of the island was closed in the high season: the petrifies forest!

It had been one of the most important reasons for us to chose Lesvos as our vacation place! Only the museum was open, but of course it is not the same to see a natural wonder itself or only some exhibits! We were told that the closure was because of excavations. But neither we ourselves nor residents believed that. Think they would try to make excavations at other times or close only a part of the forest. I also regret that it was not possible to buy small pieces of the petrified wood. Because the forest is still growing it should be possible to sell pieces, but regulations prohibited it. We were told that we perhaps could find pieces at the beach, but we did not.

Further colored stones + rocks (not made of wood) we found in Efalou, a place at the northern coast with warm springs in the sea and a nice fairly remote beach behind that rocks.
